A brief history of the distillery
The tradition of the Old School distillery dates back to the 20th century, specifically to 1929, when an Italian school was opened in the rural home of the Ljubešić family, bringing maestri from Veneto to live there. During long winter evenings in the tavern, amidst singing and socializing, experiences in making delicious drinks were exchanged, leading to the creation of the first liqueurs with the finest Italian coffee and the first homemade brandies with Mediterranean herbs. This tradition continued for decades, passed down from generation to generation, and registered sales began at the turn of the 21st century.
The transition from a traditional to a modern four-fraction distillation still with a specially installed gin tunnel, where alcohol vapor is flavored with the finest aromas of Mediterranean herbs and fruits, opened up a new philosophy in obtaining distillates. Today, the Old School distillery produces about 20 liqueurs, brandies, and gins in three different modern packages available at all better retail locations in Croatia. The recognizable Glagolitic "L" logo, symbolizing friendship, socializing, and primarily people, often finds its way to many European tables of those who have visited Croatia.
Logo
Glagolitic script is one of the most valuable
characteristics of the Croatian people and their
culture. Taking the letter L (Ⰾ) and its
meaning (people, socializing, community) as
the distillery's logo emphasizes the importance
of the beginnings of literacy in Istria, as well as
man as a social being who will enjoy
the benefits of the superb distillates that
this distillery produces. The foundation of tradition
is combined with the famous international
saying "old school" as a synonym for
something proven and reliable, resulting in a
logo that simultaneously symbolizes the importance
of tradition and community.
